Iraq’s Catholics are being crucified
Iraq could only be governed by a Secular Strongman, like... what wuz him name... oh yeah... Saddam [Hussein]. Christians were left alone under his regime, and Sunnis and Shi’ites were too scared to get out of line.
Democracy is not a Universal, and it does not work for all people at all times. Enough with the political idolatry. True (remember Archduke Otto von Habsburg on legitimism) but this is nothing to do with democracy (that’s just neocon pious rhetoric). IIRC the Iraqis didn’t vote to have their country invaded and occupied. If anything they’re voting with homemade bombs to get the occupiers out.
Incidentally the Baath Party that still governs Syria (President Bashar al-Assad and his charming English-born wife) was founded on the radical notion that these countries should govern themselves and make a profit from their own oil instead of being controlled by the British or the Americans.
