Being pissed-off is not enough. Imagine it’s over. The state is gone. No big boss is telling you what to do any longer. There’s nothing to be angry about except some intermittent, garden variety crime. Now what do we do? I hope you are not drawing a blank, but most of us do when presented with this scenario. Here’s the big point I’m trying to make: Whatever we would do after the celebration ends is what we should be doing now.
Peace poor. The twist that free trade makes is to allow just about any disagreement to become an agreement. You think you ought to have my land? Without free trade, we must fight, and one of us will end up poor. With free trade, you can offer me something in exchange, and we are both better off. Ironically, the democratic process of voting to allocate resources does the opposite.
Economics and the drug war. when there is less of something that people want, that item will become more expensive. Because drugs are illegal and their supply restricted, their price rises. The drug war creates drug lords and drug cartels.
