Consumer warning: don’t buy Hartz flea collars
Got word on Facebook that an old friend (who in the ’90s helped form the worldview you read here) got one for Tessa, this marvellous Russian blue, from this respected company; the chemical nearly killed her. Don’t trust it.
Casual web search for more info on the antidotes (atropine, 2-PAM chloride) our vet gave Tessa to save her life leads to the New York Dept. of Health page on Bioterrorism Preparedness. Why? The cheap, toxic organophosphates (OPs) used by Hartz, Sergeant’s and other corporate SOBs in their flea and tick shampoos, collars, etc. are chemically related to SARIN and VX NERVE GAS.
