Linguistic humour
On the leave-taking of Easter
As some visitors to this blog probably know, Russian speakers get to have some fun listening to the Easter services because the verse that says 'Let us drink the new drink... ' is 'Пиво пием новое...'. The Slavonic word used here for 'drink' as a noun, пиво, means 'beer' in Russian and other modern Slavic languages. Let us drink the new beer!
