Today’s saint from the Russian Orthodox tradition
St Basil of Riazan’ (1295)
This mediæval bishop of Riazan’, Russia responded to the city’s malice by laying his monk’s cape (mantle or mantia) flat on the river, taking a precious icon of Our Lady, standing on the mantle and floating away. A new take on ‘shaking the dust off your feet’.

A patron saint for windsurfers?
