Credal versus temperamental conservatism
Fr Christopher Webber at Episcopal Majority touches on the difference between the two kinds of churchmen I wrote about here. Of course credal and temperamental aren’t mutually exclusive: doctrine and moral teaching do matter but the distinction he and I make is real and he’s right that the conservative side in his church’s row is largely Protestant. In short I’m a Burkean temperamentalist and traditional Catholic who holds the conservative side in that row happens to be right on the Controversial Issue™ du jour.
