Bibs and bobs
  • This entry is brought to you by... Pelino’s, some of the best pasta sauce (and from a jar at that) I’ve had. A family’s ‘slow-cooked recipes’ from Pacentro, Italy. At least as good as a trip to Mulberry Street in Manhattan or a cosy South Philly restaurant.
  • ‘An Occasional Man.’ Covered by great jazz/pop singers Anita O’Day, Rosemary Clooney and Peggy Lee it’s now being played in a tanning-salon ad in the States. Pop music for grown-ups, part of the sexy, stylish, confident ’50s Taki’s nostalgic for.
  • What a coincidence. Yesterday as the pump price for premium hit $4 locally I rode my bicycle to work and back, about 25 miles, simply because it was such a lovely day. (Of course today, US National Bike to Work Day, it’s pouring here.) Thanks to the topography I can get home in an hour but of course for the same reason the other way is still a challenge. There are naysayers about the whole thing.
