Ecclesiastical bibs and bobs
- The angel of the Lord brought tidings unto Mary.
- High Mass in the Presence of a Greater Prelate. The Bishop of Fort Worth on Lætare Sunday.
- Canon Reid and Fr Clavier on praying the office.
- Kevin Thew Forrester.
- WO.
- Fr Hunwicke’s ecumenical moment.
- The next RC Archbishop of New York. Business as usual as far as I can tell. Strong on doctrine but not high-church in the more recent liturgical sense. Read Thomas Day and you’ll understand.
- The OCA Archbishop of Dallas and the South is retiring.
- Greek Catholicism.
- Fr Joseph Huneycutt is brutally honest about convert burnout.
- Hilary: Not one of us gives a tinker’s damn about the Second Vatican Council, other than the myriad ways in which it succeeded in destroying our rightful patrimony of the Faith of our fathers. For Pete’s sake! Let go of the ’60s. No-one cares.
- Hilary on Anglicanism: The idea of a man going into ‘the church’ because he believed he had a vocation to help save souls would simply have appeared ridiculous to the English of 1810. She also contributed the YouTube above.
- Related to the YouTube, an update: ‘the Tory Party at prayer’ often is not orthodox. This is nothing new. Not only were Anglo-Catholics often well-meaning socialists but one of the first Modernists, George Tyrrell, was a staunch Conservative. In American terms think of the religion of the Bushes, father and son: easygoing liberal Protestants really (Bush the younger as an evangelical was Karl Rove’s imaginary creation).
