- It’s now a crime to be poor. You won’t be arrested for shopping in a Dollar Store, but if you are truly, deeply, in-the-streets poor, you’re well advised not to engage in any of the biological necessities
of life — like sitting, sleeping, lying down or loitering. The ordinances that afflict the destitute, most of which go back to the dawn of gentrification in the ’80s and ’90s. In defiance of all reason and compassion, the criminalization of poverty has actually been intensifying as the recession generates ever more poverty. - Opposition to Obamacare on the rise.
- Bush played politics with terror alerts.
- European countries set to take Gitmo prisoners.
- Judge strikes down part of South Dakotan abortion law.
- Idiot pols try to grab drinking decisions from parents. Binge drinking happens when you demonise alcohol instead of teaching its responsible use.
- The left revert to their pro-war ways now that they’re in power.
- Libertarianism: a force of nature.
- Too ignorant to get the right wrong answer. The birther movement is stupid, attacking Obama’s person when he’s a symptom of big long-standing problems nothing to do with what country he was born in. (In the very unlikely event he was born in Kenya it wouldn’t matter because according to the law in 1961 his mother kept her US citizenship despite marrying a foreign citizen, which no longer forfeited citizenship, so Obama would still be a natural-born citizen, a silly requirement but it is in the Constitution.)
- Israel: aiding and abetting war crimes.
- Governments should fear the people.
- Scalia’s shocking remarks about capital punishment are not just a distortion of the Constitution, says Alan Dershowitz, they’re also an outrage against his church. The establishment right (neocons) are not our friends even when they hide behind the church. Surely it is among the worst sins, under Catholic teaching, to kill an innocent human being intentionally. Yet that is precisely what Scalia would authorize under his skewed view of the United States Constitution.
Catholic integralism is the true seamless garment.
Don't apologize for things you didn't do, to people who don't believe in forgiveness or redemption.
