- Bin Laden’s warning: Americans’ inability to grasp why the Sept. 11 attacks occurred has “cost you a lot without any result whatsoever.” If it’s in fact bin Laden.
- Folk hero: shoe-throwing Iraqi reporter set to be released. If somebody invaded my country, trashed its infrastructure and replaced its secular dictator with gang rule and Muslim rule I’d be cheesed off too.
- Religion is not suicide-bombers’ main motive.
- Hundreds protest US Army arcade at Franklin Mills Mall. I’m not a pacifist and as a man I think I understand the ‘band of brothers’ call that led both my late rector (in the Royal Navy 45 years ago) and Fr Mark to volunteer as military chaplains. That said I think the protesters are right, considering how the military is abused today (‘Hey, kids, killing Afghans is fun like a video game!’). I imagine ‘The Army Experience’ doesn’t include simulated paralysis, missing limbs, nightmares and a lifelong guilty conscience (I’ve met WWII veterans who still feel that way).
- Busily making more enemies in Pakistan.
- Another conservative myth bites the dust: the Iron Lady. Thatcher agreed with the Soviets against German reunification which is not surprising as a weak/broken Germany has long been a goal of British policy, the real reason for fighting WWII (and allying back then with the Soviets, worse than the Nazis).
Catholic integralism is the true seamless garment.
Don't apologize for things you didn't do, to people who don't believe in forgiveness or redemption.
