Goodbye, Transfiguration
More here and here. Most of St Paul’s churches are now the stomping ground of Mohammed; the church lost Carthage but got the cities of Europe. When God told St Francis through the San Damiano crucifix to rebuild his church the saint thought he meant the building. The irony now is as Pope Benedict picks up where St Francis left off, the lights have gone out for good on a corner in West Philadelphia. Nothing lasts for ever on this earth except the church in the sense Our Lord meant but seeing a consecrated church go like this, even when necessary, is a crying shame.
