It was 30 years ago today
That Pope John Paul II greenlighted the granddaddy of the ordinariates, the Pastoral Provision (ordaining married convert ex-Anglican priests), which begat the Anglican Use, a splice of ICEL Novus Ordo and 1979 Rite I Anglo-Catholic practice in Texas, a cut above standard Novus (as you can see: the marvellous Tridentine flavour of American Anglo-Catholicism, or it was Reform² when that wasn’t cool, when even JPII’s biggest fans wanted nothing to do with it) but one hopes it will be replaced with something better. (For one thing Pope Benedict has ordered a proper translation of the NO.)
