Question for Douglas’ Monastic Diurnal users
At home I alternate between a Uniontown-based Byzantine Rite office and sitting down to read the diurnal. Other users: do you use his strange translations of some things or the more standard ones? For example I junk ‘Mary, we hail thee, Mother and Queen compassionate’ for ‘Hail, holy Queen’ (as in the good old ending of the rosary and in the Leonine prayers after Low Mass) or just say it in Latin (Salve, regina), and switch ‘Star of ocean fairest’ for Athelstan Riley’s ‘Hail, O star that pointest’ (how I learnt it in England a long time ago) for the BVM office hymn Ave, maris stella.
