Retro diner done right

One of the Silver Diner chain, Cherry Hill, NJ. Based on a real late-’30s place, they say. One of my mottoes (like It’s Not About Latin™ although I like Latin) is, from ‘The Simpsons’: ‘Not Retro. Old.’ (The difference between creating a mini-diner in one’s rec room with 45s tacked on the wall – the ‘Happy Days’ approach – on one hand and sitting in your 1920s living room or your panelled den, playing 45s on your hi-fi and then watching the thin TV atop the big art-deco radio or 1949 Zenith or Muntz cabinet on the other.) But I like this a lot. The price is right too but of course not as good as with real money (money made of or backed by precious metals not government promises).

The shrine of the ’40s Zenith next to where I’m sitting writing this.
