Syria, which has pretty strong restrictions on most imported goods, especially from the West, is great for cars, although the Lada Niva (comparable to the VW bug in terms of ease of maintenance) is the most common car. I once spent a day riding around Qamishly in an immaculately maintained maroon '50 Desoto, visiting every Christian-owened tire and auto shop.....
The other great thing about Syria is that there is no McDonalds and no Coca-Cola...
